Keratin smoothing
Keratin smoothing, forhair that fights you.
Less frizz, less time with a dryer, and a morning that takes ten minutes instead of forty.
Mon to Sat, from 10am
What it is
A keratin smoothing treatment coats the hair shaft and is sealed in with heat. What you get back is not poker-straight hair, it is your own hair with the frizz taken out of it and the volume brought down, which means it dries smoother and holds smoother and stops reacting to every change in the weather. For anybody who currently spends forty minutes and a dryer getting to a result that a Melbourne afternoon undoes on the walk to the tram, it is the single biggest change available.
It does not suit everybody, and that is worth finding out before you book rather than after. Whether it is right for you depends on your hair type, what colour is already in it and what you actually want the result to be. Ask, and somebody will tell you honestly if it is the wrong treatment for what you are describing.
Your own hair, with the fight taken out of it.
How it goes
What actually
happens.
-
Find out if it suits you
Hair type, what colour is in it, how it behaves now and what you want it to do instead. This is where you are told if a smoothing treatment is the wrong answer to your problem.
-
Applied and sealed
Washed, the treatment worked through the hair, then dried and sealed with heat section by section. It takes a few hours and it is not a service to squeeze into a lunch break.
-
Living with it
Before you leave you will be told how to wash it, what to avoid and how long it should last on your hair. These vary by product, so the instructions you get are the ones for what was actually used on you.
What it costs
Quoted on your
hair, not a list.
Priced on the day, and what moves it is how much hair there is: length and thickness both. It is one of the longer services in the salon, so call ahead rather than walking in, and ask what it costs on your hair while you are on the phone.

Questions
The things people
ask about this.
Anything not covered here, call 0499 927 027 or come up and ask.
Will it make my hair dead straight?
No, and that is the point of it rather than a shortcoming. A smoothing treatment takes out the frizz and brings down the volume while leaving your hair able to hold a wave. If what you want is permanently straight hair, say so, because you are describing a different treatment.
How long does it last?
A few months for most people, and it fades out gradually rather than stopping. How long you get depends on your hair and on how you wash it, and the stylist will tell you what to expect on your particular head before you leave.
When can I wash my hair afterwards?
It depends on the product used on the day, so you will be told before you leave rather than guessing from something you read. Some systems need a few days before the first wash and some do not, and getting that wrong is the most common way people shorten a treatment they paid for.
Can I have it if my hair is coloured?
Often yes, though the order matters and so does what the colour is. Mention the colour when you call, including anything done at home, and you will be told whether to have them in the same visit or separate ones.
