For North Melbourne
Two stops, and youcome up inside.
Roi is not in North Melbourne. It is on the ground floor of Melbourne Central, which is two stops away and the only trip on this list that never puts you on a footpath.

Getting here from North Melbourne
Two stops on the Craigieburn line.
-
On the train
North Melbourne is two stops from Melbourne Central heading into the loop, through Flagstaff. You get out underneath the centre and come up the escalators into it, so the whole trip is under a roof from the platform to the chair.
-
On foot
About twenty-five minutes, and the pleasant way is through the Queen Victoria Market and along Lonsdale Street rather than down Victoria Street. You arrive at number 300 from the west.
-
Once you are here
Ground floor, the Lonsdale Street side. From the station concourse it is up the escalators and stay on the level you arrive at. The lit wordmark is above a timber-framed door.
Who comes down from North Melbourne
The undercover trip is the thing, and it decides more appointments than anybody admits. Melbourne weather is the reason a blow-dry gets cancelled, and this is the one journey on this list where you can leave a platform, ride two stops and walk up into the salon without going outside. On a wet Thursday that is not a convenience, it is the difference between coming in and not bothering.
The other pattern is Saturday, and it is usually attached to something else: the market, then a walk-in. The salon is open until six on Saturdays and takes people as they arrive, so a cut can be slotted into a morning that was already happening rather than being the reason for it.
The salon
Roi opened on the ground floor of Melbourne Central in 1991 and has not moved since. Same floor, same door, same owner, while the rest of the building changed hands around it.
Walk-ins are most of the business rather than something squeezed in around bookings, which is the practical reason it suits anybody coming in from North Melbourne with an hour rather than a morning.

North Melbourne.
Anything not covered here, call 0499 927 027 and ask before you travel.
How do I get to Roi Hair from North Melbourne?
Two stops on the train into the loop, through Flagstaff to Melbourne Central, and the salon is on the ground floor directly above the concourse. The 57 tram down Elizabeth Street also works: get off at Lonsdale and walk a block and a half east to number 300. On foot it is about twenty-five minutes through the market.
Will a blow-dry survive the trip home?
From the chair to the platform you are inside the building, and after that it is two stops. If it is pouring when you sit down, say so, and you will get something finished to last the walk at the other end rather than something that looks right for ten minutes.
Can I just turn up on a Saturday?
Yes. Saturdays are a walk-in day and the salon is open ten until six. If you want a particular pair of hands, or you are having colour, ring 0499 927 027 first so the time can be held.
