For Southbank
Over the river, ten minutes up Swanston.
Roi is not in Southbank. It is on the ground floor of Melbourne Central, which is one tram and one bridge away, and further in your head than it is on the map.

Getting here from Southbank
Over the bridge, ten minutes on the 1.
-
On the tram
The 1 runs up St Kilda Road, straight into Swanston Street, and stops at Melbourne Central. From most of Southbank it is a short walk to the tram and about ten minutes on it.
-
On foot
Over Princes Bridge and up Swanston is twenty-five minutes on the flat, past Federation Square and the Town Hall. You arrive at the corner with the shot tower in front of you.
-
Once you are here
Ground floor, the Lonsdale Street side, number 300. Stay on the level you walk in on. The lit wordmark is above a timber-framed door.
Who comes over from Southbank
Southbank is somewhere people live rather than somewhere they only work, and that changes the hour rather than the journey. The trip over the river tends to be an evening or a Saturday morning, not a lunch hour squeezed between meetings, which is the opposite of how the same ten minutes gets used from Docklands. Thursday until eight and Saturday until six are the two windows that matter.
The other thing that comes over the bridge is occasion hair. There is a great deal on this side of the river to be dressed for, and an upstyle holds for a long night in a way a blow-dry does not. Those need a booked chair rather than a walk-in one, so they are a phone call rather than a drop-in.
The salon
Roi opened on the ground floor of Melbourne Central in 1991 and has not moved since. Same floor, same door, same owner, while the rest of the building changed hands around it.
Walk-ins are most of the business rather than something squeezed in around bookings, which is the practical reason it suits anybody coming in from Southbank with an hour rather than a morning.

Questions
Coming in from
Southbank.
Anything not covered here, call 0499 927 027 and ask before you travel.
How do I get to Roi Hair from Southbank?
The 1 tram up St Kilda Road and Swanston Street, about ten minutes, stopping at Melbourne Central. Walking over Princes Bridge and up Swanston takes about twenty-five minutes and is flat the whole way. The salon is on the ground floor on the Lonsdale Street side.
Can you do my hair before an event?
Yes, and that is worth ringing about rather than walking in for. Upstyles and occasion hair need a chair held for them, so call 0499 927 027 with the date and somebody will tell you honestly what is possible and how long to allow.
Are you open on weekends?
Saturdays, ten until six. The salon is closed on Sundays. Thursday is the late night, until eight, which is the one worth knowing if a weekday evening suits you better than the weekend.
