Colour correction

Colour correction, forwhen it has gone wrong.

Send a photo before you book. You will get an honest answer about what it takes, including when the answer is more than one visit.

What it is

Colour correction is the work of getting hair out of something it should not be in: a box dye that went green, a band across the regrowth, brass that no toner has touched, black that somebody promised could come out in an afternoon. It is the hardest thing done in a salon and the least predictable, because what it takes depends entirely on what is already sitting in your hair.

Which is why the first step is a look rather than a booking. Bring it in, or send a photograph, and somebody will tell you what it will take. Sometimes that is one appointment. Sometimes it is two or three across a few months, because the alternative is lifting hair until it stops being hair. You will be told which one it is before you commit to anything, and not halfway through.

Told up front, rather than halfway through.

How it goes

What actually
happens.

  1. Send a photo, or bring it in

Before anything else. Daylight, no filter, and tell us what has been on it: box dye, henna, a previous salon, how long ago. The history changes the answer more than the colour does.

  2. An honest plan

What is achievable, roughly what it costs, and how many visits it takes. If getting there in one sitting would wreck your hair, you will be told that, and it is not an upsell to say so.

  3. The work, at the pace it takes

Lifted, toned and rebalanced, in one appointment where that is safe and across more than one where it is not. Each visit ends with hair you can leave the building in.

What it costs

Quoted on your
hair, not a list.

Nobody can price a correction without seeing it, and anybody who quotes you one over the phone without asking a question is guessing. What it takes depends on what is in your hair now, how much of it there is and how far it has to move. Send a photograph, answer two or three questions about what has been on it, and you will get a real number and a real number of visits.

Questions

The things people
ask about this.

Anything not covered here, call 0499 927 027 or come up and ask.

Can you fix a box dye?

Usually, and it is one of the most common things that walks in. Box dye deposits more pigment than a salon colour and it does not come out evenly, so the honest answer depends on how many boxes, how long ago and what colour. Send a photo and say what you used, and you will get a straight answer rather than a hopeful one.

How many sessions will it take?

Between one and several, and the difference is decided by your hair rather than by your schedule. Going a shade or two is often one appointment. Coming out of black, or off a heavy band, is usually more, because the only way to do it faster is to keep lifting past the point where hair survives it. You will be told which one you are before you book.

Can you get me from black to blonde?

Sometimes, rarely in one visit, and not always all the way. Black box dye in particular can take several sessions spread over months, and on some heads of hair the honest answer is that a dark blonde or a rich brown is where it safely stops. We would rather tell you that at the start than take your money and find out together.

What should the photo show?

Daylight, no filter, hair down and dry. One from the back and one from the front if you can, and one close to the roots so the band is visible. Then tell us what has been on it and roughly when. That is usually enough to give you a real answer without you leaving the house.
