What it is

Precision cutting, blow-dries and finishing, for women and men, in the same chairs by the same team. Roi has been doing it on this floor since 1991, which is long enough that a good number of the people in those chairs have been coming since before the shop had a website to find it on.

Walk-ins are not a concession here, they are most of the business. The salon is on the ground floor directly above Melbourne Central station, which means a haircut can happen between getting off a train and doing whatever you came into town for. If you want a particular stylist, or you are having colour as well, call first so the time can be held.

Most of this business walks in off a train.

How it goes

What actually
happens.

  1. What you actually want

Two minutes at the start about how you wear it, how much time you give it in the morning, and what the last cut got wrong. It is worth more than any photograph.

  2. The cut

Cut to the shape your hair will hold rather than the one it holds for the twenty minutes after a blow-dry. If something will not sit the way you are asking, you will hear that before the scissors rather than after.

  3. Finished properly

Blow-dried and finished, which is also where you find out how to get it looking like that again on a Tuesday without the two mirrors and the professional dryer.

What it costs

Quoted on your
hair, not a list.

Cutting is priced on the day, and what moves it is length, thickness and whether you are having it finished. Call and ask, or walk in and ask at the desk. Nobody will start cutting before you know what it costs.

Questions

The things people
ask about this.

Anything not covered here, call 0499 927 027 or come up and ask.

Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?

Both work, and walk-ins are rather the point of being on the ground floor of Melbourne Central. If you want a particular stylist, or a longer service, call ahead so the time can be held for you.

Do you cut men’s hair?

Yes. Roi has cut, coloured and styled for men and women since 1991. Same chairs, same team, same booking, and no separate price list for a shorter haircut.

Can I get a blow-dry without having a cut?

Yes, and plenty of people do, usually before something happening that evening. It is a walk-in service like the rest, though if it is for an occasion with a hard start time, call ahead rather than taking the chance.

I have somewhere to be. How long will it take?

A cut and blow-dry is usually under the hour. The honest version of this answer depends on the day and what is already in the chairs, so ring the salon and ask before you walk down rather than after.
